A future spy in the sky this
A spy from above 65,000 feet. And yet not as far as space! A cross between a satellite and a spy plane is being planned by the Pentagon that will set aside $ 400 million for the aircraft. The 450 feet long aircraft will stay up in the air for 10 long years, and help with surveillance non-stop. The airship will be fuelled by helium and a novel solar panel system that will recharge hydrogen fuel cells. The biggest advantage for such a spy above is that it cannot be tracked by enemies. It is

SC’s hydrogen highway
COLUMBIA, AIKEN OPEN HYDRO FUEL STATIONS South Carolina’s “hydrogen highway” between Aiken and Columbia is officially open for business after both cities opened hydrogen fueling stations today. Aiken’s Sage Mill facility opened this morning in an advanced manufacturing park and will be home to the Center for Hydrogen Research’s hydrogen fueled Chevy Silverado , as well as a Kia Borrego that runs on hydrogen. The station currently uses hydrogen fuel cell forklifts and will contribute to

Mazda begins commercial leasing of Premacy RE hybrid rotary hydrogen vehicle
Mazda is providing another green option in Japan by commencing commercial leasing of their Premacy Hydrogen RE Hybrid, a hydrogen hybrid vehicle that combines Mazda’s hydrogen rotary engine with an electric motor. The Premacy Hydrogen RE Hybrid improves on the RX-8 Hydrogen RE – the first model to be commercialized - with the hydrogen fuel range of the doubled to 200 kilometers and the maximum output increased by approximately 40 percent to 110 kilowatts… Tags: Automotive , Cars , Ele

Test drive: 2009 Honda FCX Clarity
So I’m finally ready to report on my week with the Car of the Future — or at least the future according to Honda. This is the 2009 Honda FCX Clarity , the first vehicle designed from the get-go for a hydrogen fuel cell powertrain. Our own Basem Wasef wrote a great technical review of the FCX Clarity for our About.com’s Alternative Fuels site, so I concentrated my review on day-to-day life with the FCX Clarity. I’m still not convinced that hydrogen is the fuel of the future, but I am con

Mercedes F-Cell Hybrid Roadster Goes Old School
Mercedes-Benz decided to let company trainees do a mashup of what would happen if you combine a futuristic hydrogen car with an old school automobile. The result is the F-Cell Hybrid Roadster. Over 150 Daimler AG trainees in Sindelfingen, Germany took turns for about a year in creating this 1.2 kw hydrogen fuel cell vehicle that has a top speed of around 15 mph and a range of a little over 200 miles. The vehicle is a cross between an 1886 Benz Patent Motor Car and Mercedes B-Class F-Cell .

Perfessor Friar rambles about cars, fuel cells and saving the planet.
All this talk about hydrogen fuel-cell powered cars. Well, what about them? Remember your high-school science class, when the teacher applied electricty to water with two electrodes? It would cause electrolysis of the water. The electrical energy would cause the H2O to to dissociate into hydrogen gas and oxygen: 2 H2O + energy = 2H2 + O2 Hydrogen fuel cells work in reverse (I won’t go into the details here). They combine oxygen and hydrogen gas to form water, and create energy.

Air Force Developing Solar Powered, Hydrogen Fuel-Cell Blimp
The Pentagon intends to spend $400 million to develop a giant blimp which will reach an altitude of 65,000 feet and remain airborne for 10 years. The dirigible will be filled with helium and powered by an innovative system that uses solar panels to recharge hydrogen fuel cells . “It is absolutely revolutionary,” Werner J.A. Dahm, chief scientist for the Air Force, said of the proposed unmanned airship — describing it as a cross between a satellite and a spy plane. The aircraft will provide
