Fuel Cell Street Sweeper Cleans Up in Basle, Switzerland
Proton Power Systems has developed a hydrogen fuel cell street sweeper that it is now testing in Basle, Switzerland. The municipal street sweeping vehicle was developed in conjunction with the Swiss consortium, hy.muve. The 20kw fuel cell provides the street sweeping vehicle with a top speed of 24 mph. The fuel cell vehicle can hold enough hydrogen at 5,000 psi before refueling 7 hours later. Refueling the vehicle takes less than 10 minutes. The modification involved removal of the diesel en

Legendary quote from Bill Reinert of Toyota about ethanol and plug-in battery cars
(Join the Facebook page Plan to Launch Hydrogen Car Revolution which is for people who support the plan that calls for the U.S. Congress to provide tax credits to build the first 12,000 hydrogen fueling stations and help get the first 12 million hydrogen fuel cell cars on the road.) As many people who read this blog know, Bill Reinert is one of my favorite people in the world. He just tells it like it is (see below). Here is an excerpt from an outstanding article on Bill Reinert from To

Whatever Happened to Hydrogen Fuel Cells?
I wonder if in 20 years comedians will joke about the coming of the hydrogen economy the way they now joke (in the US) about the coming of the metric system. For about the last decade I have been reading about hydrogen fuel cell cars as if they were just around the corner. General Motors fatefully decided to pursue hydrogen fuel cell cars rather than developing hybrid or batter technology. In 2003 G.W. Bush announced a 1.2 billion dollar initiative to develop the technology. In California Govern

Tesla real-world driving range significantly below 244 miles

On their company website , Tesla lists the driving range of the Roadster as 244 miles. Though, they do mention in the fine print that “Actual range and electricity consumption will vary with driving conditions
Can Hydrogen Replace Oil?
Can Hydrogen Replace Oil? Hydrogen burns clean and nearly everyone agrees that running vehicles with hydrogen fuel cells instead of oil would be a great step forward for the environment. So what prevents hydrogen from replacing oil as the fuel of choice for most vehicles? Sudan Travel Warning The Department of State warns U.S. citizens of the risks of travel to Sudan and recommends that American citizens defer all travel to Sudan due to uncertain security condition
Department of Defence to test hydrogen fuel cell bus
The issue of investment in hydrogen fuel cells may rage on in the USA, but that hasn’t stopped Colorado-based Proterra LLC providing a hydrogen fuel cell hybrid bus for use in a US Department of Defence pilot project. The aim of the project is to test an end-to-end clean hydrogen energy cycle, and will include all elements of a clean hydrogen energy cycle such as local hydrogen generation via waste water treatment digester gas clean-up and reformation; bulk hydrogen storage, dispensing and tra

Weather forces NASA to postpone Endeavour launch again
14 July : Heavy clouds near the Kennedy Space Center forced NASA to call off launch of the space shuttle Endeavour on a mission to deliver a Japanese-built porch to the International Space Station. The launch was rescheduled for 6:51 p.m. EDT 0421 hrs IST on Monday. It was the fourth delay of Endeavour’s flight. Two launch attempts last month were scuttled by hydrogen fuel leaks and a third try on Saturday ended when NASA ordered checks of the shuttle’s electrical systems following a spate of
